Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

32)Cambium: The cambium is a layer of tissue in plants or in this picture, trees. It contains the xylem and the phloem. It is responsible for the secondary growth of stems and roots.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

31)Territorial Behavior: My dog is smelling a pole to see if any other dog had already marked its territory. Dogs mark their territory with their urine.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

30)Homeostasis: Homeostasis is the maintaining of a stable internal environment. The person playing tennis is maintaining homeostasis by sweating to keep the body from overheating.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

  1. 29)Exoskeleton: An exoskeleton is an external skeleton. The turtles shell is it's external skeleton.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

28)Taxis: A taxi is a movement by an organism in response to a stimulus. This seagul got ontop of a car at splish splash because a person left food ontop of the car. The food is the stimuli and the bird moved toward the stimuli.

26&27)Kingdom: The Kingdom is the second most commonly used taxonomic category. Two types of kingdoms are plantae and animalia which are represented by these two pictures.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

25) Organisms in different phyla: The Phyla is a category in the lists of organisms. This sponge is a porifera in the Phyla.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

24)Different types of carbohydrates: One type of carbohydrate is cellulose which i showed with the piece of paper. The celery in the picture is also an example of a cellulose carbohydrate.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

21)Epithelial Tissue(2): Another type of this tissue is the squamous epithelium. This tissue lines several organs and as shown in the picture, lines the cavity of the mouth.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

20)Epithelial Tissue(1): A type of this tissue is Stratified Epithelium which is two or more cells thick. An example of this is skin.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

19)Endosperm: An endosperm is the tissue produced in the seeds of most flowering plants. This is a picture of sunflower seeds.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

18)Connective Tissue(2):Another supportive connective tissue is bones. This is a picture of a chicken bone.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

17) Connective Tissue(1): Connective tissue is one of four tissues in the body. A type of connective tissue is supportive connective tissue. This includes cartilage. The picture is of my dads ear which is made of cartilage.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

16)Fermentation(2): Another type of fermentation is called lactic acid fermentation. When a muscle is being used such as the calves in this picture, lactic acid builds up in the muscles which is what makes the muscles feel "sore".

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

15)Fermentation(1): Fermentation is the enzyme catalyzed extraction of energy from organic compounds without the involvement of oxygen. The type of fermentation shown by this bottle of wine is called alcohol fermentation.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

14)Lipids used for energy storage(2):The subunit of an energy storing lipid is glycerol and three fatty acids. These are fats. This bar of soap is another example of a lipid used for energy storage.

Scavenger Hunt Assignment #4

13)Lipids used for energy storage(1): Lipids are nonpolar, organic molecules that are insoluble in water. This is a picture of butter and this is an example of a lipid used for energy storage.
